Renshu Medical Hearing Screening Initiative Officially Launches

On November 19, Dr. Fu Yong—Director of ENT at Zhejiang University School of Medicine Children's Hospital and Special Consultant to Renshu Medical—was invited by Xixi Weicai Kindergarten to deliver a lecture on pediatric hearing health for parents.

According to China's Technical Standards for Children's Ear and Hearing Care, hearing screenings should be conducted from ages 0–6, with critical intervals at birth (48 hours), 1 month, 3 months, 6 months, 1 year, 2 years, and 3 years. Annual screenings remain mandatory for ages 4–6.

Undetected hearing loss severely impacts children's physical and psychological development. Regular screenings enable early detection, intervention, and treatment. Expert-led educational lectures, like Dr. Fu’s, are essential for raising awareness.

During the session, Dr. Fu emphasized the urgency of pediatric hearing health, linking it to speech development and lifelong well-being. He cited Hong Kong research showing a 15–17% prevalence of hearing disorders among youth.

Focusing on otitis media—a leading cause—Dr. Fu detailed its types, causes, symptoms, and treatments, referencing the American Academy of Audiology Pediatric Hearing Screening Guidelines: 90% of preschoolers experience secretory otitis media, underscoring the necessity of routine screenings.

Through this lecture, Renshu Medical launched its Kindergarten Hearing Screening Program, partnering with schools to provide screenings. This initiative aims to:

Detect abnormalities early

Facilitate timely treatment

Protect auditory and speech development

Reduce hearing- and speech-related disabilities

Improve child health outcomes

Key Data Points:

15–17%: Hearing disorder prevalence (Hong Kong youth)

90%: Preschoolers affected by secretory otitis media

6x: Critical screening frequency before age 3
